Donkey Inside a Music Store, 2013
From the solo exhibition Egill Sæbjörnsson at Gallery Hopstreet, Brussels. Belgium. 2013
Description:
What we see is a wooden box hung onto a wall like a classic painting. Instead of canvas with paint, we see sticks rotate, pushing balls around and we hear sounds of classical instruments and the purring sounds of motors.
More about the work:
The work is a self generative video work, where the exact replica of the box with rotating sticks is fabricated in a game engine program. That image is projected onto the rotating sticks and the balls that are only projection move as if they are real. Inside the box is a small computer that drives the arduino driven stepper motors that propel the sticks on the front of the box. The sounds come from speakers on the side of the box
The title is a joke, as the box is similar size as a small sized donkey, and the sounds that happen haphazardly are as if he was walking inside a music store and accidentally would hit his ass into different musical instruments that would make sound in return upon his journey amongst them.
